I did not grow up in a Christian household, but God brought his truth into my life. My step-mom would only agree for our week visit in the summer to be a week that there was an all day VBS available. At 9, my cousin stayed with us for a bit and I began attending church with her. I attended until I was 11 and we moved. I went to church camp with them when I was 12 and received the gift of faith in Jesus as the Son of God, redeemer of my soul. However, at this point, my home life wasn’t so great. I didn’t have a mentor to help me mature in my faith. For a short time, I attended a church with a friend, but her church taught about all the do’s and don’t for Christian life, but not much on knowing Jesus. I knew I needed to do more in terms of my relationship with God, but thought I needed to clean myself up beforehand. When I was 24, my brother committed suicide. I was a very low point in my life and I turned back to God. At that point, He slowly worked to draw me back to himself. Although I began attending church on a more regular basis, I held back. Shortly after my daughter was born, I was reading a book on prayer. The first chapter spoke about faith in Jesus and living a life devoted to him. God allowed that truth to permeate my heart so that I let go of all my fears and submitted all of my life to him. Since that day, God has continued to mature me in Christ, allowing me to serve Him is various ways, and I was even able to go on a couple mission trips.
