Communications Director
The Communications Director will champion First Methodist Carrollton’s vision to fill every neighborhood with the good news of God’s love through the creation, management, and execution of comprehensive communication strategies focused on promoting the church’s identity to the congregation and surrounding community. This position exists to help people discover their role in the story of God and find their place at First Methodist Carrollton.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
General
● Prepare and administer the communications annual budget
Strategy
● Further the mission of the church by making the life of the church both visible and appealing to members, potential members and special event on campus guests.
● Encourage a culture of storytelling to celebrate how God is moving through our people and ministries
● Prepare comprehensive content strategies that align with First Church’s goals and drive high engagement
● Work with the Strategic Ministry committee, staff and key lay leaders to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them
● Ensure the brand of First Methodist Carrollton is consistently experienced in person, in print, and online
Execution
● Oversee the development of all print, digital, video, and audio content and distribute accordingly across all communications channels
Branding
● Serve as editor-in-chief for all content to ensure quality, clarity, and consistency with First Church’s brand and style guide
● Ensure the voice and brand are consistent with standards and guides, as well as AP Style. Create and maintain any style guides as needed
Collaboration
● Supervise relationships with vendors, consultants, and contractors related to developing the church’s communication
● Partner and equip leadership, staff, and key lay leaders to ensure positive and active communication of core priorities, events, fundraising efforts, serving initiatives, and celebratory moments/ministry stories
● Develop and lead volunteer teams for photography, video production, design, and any other needed areas
● Participate in staff meetings and brainstorming sessions, providing input on best practices for communications and marketing
Internal Promotions
● Ensure that all materials for sermon series and worship contain engaging and accurate content and are communicated in a way that aligns with the church’s mission and the needs of the Senior Pastor
● Ensure photography and video are captured at major church events and archived for future needs
External Advertising and Media Relations
● Collaborate with staff and leadership on advertising campaigns, guest follow-up processes, and first impression pieces
● Spearhead strategic communications and marketing campaigns for major church holidays, events, and campaigns
● Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities, and prepare talking points or other supporting material as needed
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor
The Ideal Candidate is
● Has a growing relationship with Christ and an understanding of Wesleyan theology
● Highly self-motivated with strong time-management, problem-solving, and organization skills
● Creative, collaborative, and prioritizes building relationships with ministry leaders
● Proficient in email, web, and social media marketing
● An innovative thinker, with a track record for translating and executing on strategic plans and vision
● An exceptional communicator both in writing and orally with the ability to effectively interface with leadership, staff, and members
● Able to vision cast for both short-term and long-term campaigns, while executing on day-to-day tasks
● Engaged in monitoring and researching emerging trends in communications, social media, and marketing
● Willing to champion First Methodist Carrollton’s mission and vision to fill every neighborhood with the good news of God’s love
